Grandkids & Grandparents Connecting through Music

written by Sharon Pierce McCullough |

Sometimes it is difficult to find anything in common with your grandchild. With such an age difference, and interests that are generations apart, discovering any connecting point can be trying.

One place to start, however, is finding out what type of music your grandchild likes. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover that you both enjoy similar types of music … not necessarily the same groups but, hey, it’s a starting point, right? I’m always amazed at the number of young people who really love Oldies music . And with the renewed interest in Big Bands and Swing dancing, this is an entirely new option for sharing some music .

Be sure to stay open minded when bringing up the subject of music with your grandkids … they might just introduce you to some new tunes that come to be favorites of your own. And while we’re on the subject … don’t forget to bring out the instruments, if you play, or open up the piano and start playing a song. One more fun way to connect with the grandkids !
